Why you’ll love this recipe!

Sweet & tropical flavor 🥝 – The delicious blend of kiwi, mango, and pineapple makes this green smoothie feel like a mini beach vacation in a glass.

Good for you, but doesn’t taste like it – The 6 easy ingredients load it with vitamins and minerals, but it tastes like a sweet dessert.

Make it your own – Mix and match the fruit, swap the yogurt for coconut yogurt, or use your favorite plant milk instead.

I love a midday smoothie—fruity, creamy, and filling, it’s the perfect pick-me-up! My strawberry blueberry smoothie and my chocolate cashew smoothie tend to be my go-tos, but this Tropical Kiwi Smoothie is what I make on hot days.

In case you’ve never had one before, a kiwi smoothie is basically summer in a glass. The mix of kiwi, mango, and frozen pineapple is fruity, not too sweet, and oh-so refreshing. And because kiwis are full of vitamin C, potassium, and a whole bunch of other good things, this smoothie is as good for you as it is delicious!

Kiwi Smoothie Ingredients

Kiwi – I made this kiwi smoothie recipe with 3 fresh, peeled kiwis. Frozen kiwi works, too.

Tropical fruits – I combined the kiwi with a fresh mango and frozen pineapple for a tropical vibe. You can easily swap the fresh mango for frozen if you’d prefer.

Spinach – Because I love using leafy greens for an extra nutritional boost in smoothies. And no, they don’t make your smoothie taste like a salad! Kale works here, too.

This list is to provide further clarification on a few of the ingredients. See recipe card below for the full ingredient list.

Variations

  • Mix and match the fruit – Combine the kiwis with frozen bananas, blueberries, and/or halved strawberries to mix things up.
  • Dairy-free smoothie – Just swap the regular milk and yogurt for unsweetened dairy-free alternatives, like oat milk and coconut yogurt.
  • For a protein boost, blend in a scoop of your favorite plain protein powder or 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds.
  • More add-in ideas – Chia seeds, honey, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and/or orange juice would be delicious.

How to Make a Tropical Kiwi Smoothie

Step 1: Blend. Add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.

Step 2: Serve. Pour your green smoothie into a glass, then sip and enjoy!

Erin’s Tips and Tricks

  • This recipe makes 1 kiwi smoothie, but you can easily double or triple the ingredients and use a large blender to make a bigger batch.
  • Are you using fresh fruit? Add a few ice cubes to the blender to thicken the texture.

My Pro Tip

Frozen Fruit vs. Fresh Fruit

I highly recommend freezing the kiwi, mango, and pineapple ahead of time. Fresh fruit does work here, but if you want your smoothie to be slushy, ice-cold, and thick, frozen fruit is the way to go.

Green Smoothie FAQs

Should I peel the kiwis?

I peeled my kiwis before blending them up, but you don’t have to. The skin is actually a great source of fiber and antioxidants, so if that’s what you’re looking for, feel free to leave it on!

Can I prep the smoothie ahead of time?

Yes, and it’s a great way to save some time in the morning. I like to divide the chopped fruit into individual freezer-friendly containers or bags, keep them in the freezer, and then blend with the rest of the ingredients right before serving.

Now that I think of it, I haven’t had a kiwi in forever! I don’t dislike them, they just aren’t in my regular arsenal of fruit. Hemp seeds on the other hand are like my food fairy dust. Sprinkle a little protein power on salads, smoothies or whatever I’m eating pretty much!

  2. Sarah @ Making Thyme for Health says:

I was the same way with kiwis and I think it was because of the seedy texture. I do love the flavor though so I think adding it to a smoothie is a brilliant idea. And I’m obsessed with hemp seeds too so I pretty much want nothing more than to reach through the screen right now and grab this beautiful smoothie!!

  3. Christine@ Apple of My Eye says:

Mhmmm I’ve always been a pretty big fan of kiwis! I love how pocket-sized they are (not that I actually put it in my pocket hahah) and how you can easily scoop out the insides. Even better in a smoothie! Gorgeoussss photos!

  4. Julia says:

Holy shit! Now that you mention it, I think it’s been about 6 years since I’ve had a kiwi! And I have no excuse, because I actually love the dern things. This smoothie has got it going on, sista! Time to get me some kiwis and get to blending, fo’ sho! So happy to hear you had a fun Easter and Happy Monday!

    1. Erin says:

Glad to hear I’m not the only one going through a kiwi drought. We need to eat extra kiwis to make up for lost time!

  5. Amanda @ .running with spoons. says:

I’m pretty hit or miss when it comes to kiwis. I like them, but I just find it so hard to get a nice ripe one — usually they end up being way too sour. That and the fuzzy skin kind of skeeves me out 😆

  6. Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says:

Kiwis are a staple fruit for me! I’m eating one now! hahahahah! I’m glad you like them now 😉 And I’m one of those people who eats the skin too! The best part!

    1. Erin says:

I ate the skin too! I didn’t know people didn’t eat the skins…. lol though Google tells me it’s super healthy so I don’t feel so bad.

  7. Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food says:

This sounds so good! I like kiwi, but for some reason I never pick them up at the store. I can’t remember being a picky eater when I was a kid. My mom was really good about sneaking in healthy stuff into our meals, though!

  8. Alicia says:

I love kiwis! I just dont like how pricey they are sometimes and peeling them can be difficult because they get slippery. I actually disnt like blueberries for a while until I tried them again last year and started adding them to oatmeal. this smoothie looks delicious! as it gets warmer outside I definitely am wanting more smoothies and they are so easy to throw together

    1. Erin says:

You disliked blueberries?! Good thing you’ve hopped over to the good side 🙂

  9. Shashi at RunninSrilankan says:

Happy Post-East Monday Erin! Oooh, those fresh mint leaves in this must make this such a refreshing – almost energizing and oh-so-goo-for-me smoothie! Glad you came to the kiwi side – they really rock! 🙂
Now, I am totally fascinated by this jello pretzel salad you had at your grandmas…do you have any pictures? What was in it other than pretzels and jello?

    1. Erin says:

Haha! If you type “jello pretzel salad” into Pinterest you can see what it looks like. It’s so good!
