An easy, kid-friendly Almond Butter Sandwich that’s filled with almond butter and Nutella. It makes for a great afternoon snack, and is ready in just 5 minutes!

Recipe features

  • An easy kid-friendly recipe
  • Delicious as an afternoon snack or even as dessert

Ingredient notes

Bread – your favorite sandwich bread

Almond butter – I used creamy, but crunchy would work too

Nutella – either store bought or homemade Nutella (my homemade recipe is only 2 ingredients!)

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Butter the bread. You’re going to prep this sandwich similarly to how you’d prep a grilled cheese, which starts by buttering one side of each slice of bread.

Step 2: Add the almond butter. Spread almond butter on one slice of bread, and Nutella on the other, then pan fry the sandwich over medium heat for 2 minutes on the first side, and 1 minute on the second until it’s golden brown on both sides.

Expert tips

  • Use whipped butter, or soften the butter beforehand so it’s easier to spread
  • Can use creamy OR crunchy almond butter
  • Don’t love Nutella? Try using jelly/jam instead!

Grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are some of my absolute favorite, so I can only imagine how amazing this must be. Must make as soon as possible.

Have you ever looked into making your own almond butter? (Or nut butter in general?). It’s SO much cheaper than buying almond butter and is incredibly easy. You honestly just have to dump them in a food processor and let it run (though I roast my almonds ahead of time and add a little salt and honey to the mix). I’ve never bought almond butter — I only make my own at home. A $5.99 bag of almonds at Trader Joe’s makes just slightly under two batches of almond butter for me, and since I’m making it on my own, there’s no question about weird chemicals or anything like that. Plus you can put in whatever you want! Right now I’m working my way through a batch of almond cashew pecan butter (because those are what I had on hand 😛 ), and I’ve also made peanut butter, chocolate peanut butter, and cashew butter since I started making my own nut butter. So good!

I have tried…once. It didn’t turn out so well and I haven’t tried since… which is silly now that I think about it. I will have to give it another shot–thanks for the reminder!

This sandwich looks like an Evil Villian… However… It has a lure that just cannot be ignored! lol

This sounds so delicious! I used to make pb&j panini’s when I was a freshmen in college! Such an amazing creation!

  4. Pamela @ Brooklyn Farm Girl says:

Goodness gracious, this looks super yum! Think we might have a new winner for lunch today!

  5. Jordan @ The Blonde Vegan says:

O M G Erin I am salivating looking at the screen. And the photos are perrrrfect. Holy yumness. I had almond butter + banana on rice cakes this morning, or else I would be making this treat for lunch (maybe I still will!?!?!). Almond butter + chocolate + grilled anything = the way to my heart.

    1. TheAlmondEater says:

Hhaha thanks Jordan I’m glad I won you over with this one 🙂

  6. Amanda @ .running with spoons. says:

Omg this looks absolutely sinful. Waaaaaaant eeeeeeeet nowwwwww.

I’ll always take AB over PB, buuuuuut that might be the allergy bias talking 😉 And YES to cocoa AB! Chocolate anything is a winner in my book.

  7. Marisa @ Uproot from Oregon says:

Oh hello you dark and mysterious sandwich 😉 I love cocoa almond butter from Trader Joe’s- so creamy and decadent! Yum and all hail the almond lady.

  8. Ursula @ Northern Ambitions says:

WHHHHATTT? This looks like the tastiest thing in the world. I used to be obsessed with Nutella, as in I used to routinely eat it straight from the jar but then I stopped and haven’t had it in years. I can’t wait to try CAB. And you’re so right, almond butter is grossly expensive. It’s at least twice the price of peanut butter which sucks when you eat a lot of nut butter…then it becomes an expensive habit 🙂

    1. TheAlmondEater says:

Uhhh oh..did I just maybe spark up a new obsession?? Let me know when you try to cocoa AB! You will love it!

  9. lex says:

this looks like something i shouldn’t make for fear of eating myself into a coma!

  10. Davida @ The Healthy Maven says:

DUDE LOOK AT THESE PICS!!!!! Loving the black!!! Do you make the cocoa AB or buy it? The Cocoa Almond Spread from TJs is like a god. Spread that shit on banana bread and I can die happy.

    1. TheAlmondEater says:

      I bought the TJ’s kind–it’s addicting forrealz.
