An easy, kid-friendly Almond Butter Sandwich that’s filled with almond butter and Nutella. It makes for a great afternoon snack, and is ready in just 5 minutes!

Recipe features

  • An easy kid-friendly recipe
  • Delicious as an afternoon snack or even as dessert

Ingredient notes

Bread – your favorite sandwich bread

Almond butter – I used creamy, but crunchy would work too

Nutella – either store bought or homemade Nutella (my homemade recipe is only 2 ingredients!)

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Butter the bread. You’re going to prep this sandwich similarly to how you’d prep a grilled cheese, which starts by buttering one side of each slice of bread.

Step 2: Add the almond butter. Spread almond butter on one slice of bread, and Nutella on the other, then pan fry the sandwich over medium heat for 2 minutes on the first side, and 1 minute on the second until it’s golden brown on both sides.

Expert tips

  • Use whipped butter, or soften the butter beforehand so it’s easier to spread
  • Can use creamy OR crunchy almond butter
  • Don’t love Nutella? Try using jelly/jam instead!

Um…YUM!! I have made a grilled PB & J sandwich, but never thought to use almond butter. The addition of cocoa almond butter sounds amazing, too! I bet this would be awesome with my maple and vanilla Justin’s almond butters 🙂

  2. Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says:

I’ve always wanted to try this out! I just never got around to it, then I found out I’m gluten intolerant (and gluten free bread is just weird, and I don’t like the chemicals they put in it). But still, yum!!! Hmmm That or a quesadilla! But I know what you mean, cocoa almond butter is just the best thing ever placed on this earth, I could eat that by the spponful every day! But the price? Ugh, Trader Joe’s went up twice last year. TWICE! I’m hoping it doesn’t go about $6.99 a jar or I will cry.

  3. Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says:

Umm, why have I never made anything like this before? Clearly, that needs to change ASAP. I have to admit…I prefer peanut butter. Not that I have anything against almond butter, but PB is my first love.

  4. Camille @ Challenge Mantra says:

Wow… this is one of those brilliant things I wish I thought of before. This looks so yummy!

  5. Amy @ Long Drive Journey says:

You are right – the cost of almond butter is entirely too expensive. I still have a half eaten jar of Justin’s in my pantry. And I adore you, but I don’t think almond butter can or will hold a candle to Nutella. That being said, the almond butter and honey combination is downright delicious.

  6. Shannon says:

Sooooo much perfect in one sandwich 🙂

  7. Miss Polkadot says:

Everybody’s grilled cheese picture look tempting already but this grilled almond butter sandwich might beat it. Because really, almond butter wins over cheese for me any day but I’m sure I didn’t need to tell you as the almond fan through and through.
If it didn’t cost an arm and a leg I’d eat it by the jar. Oh, wait… I do in anyway. Honestly, I tried to go back to peanut butter to lower my grocery bills but it just didn’t do for long. Almond butter simply reigns surpreme. Given I like Nutella but not in a can’t-live-without-it way I’m sure cocoa almond butter is amazing – but we can’t get any other than plain almond butter over here. Though white almond butter is divine as is so I probably shouldn’t complain. Always longing for what we can’t have.

Haha I know what you mean… I don’t buy it as often as I used to but I definitely can’t go without it!

  8. Jessie says:

I applaud you for being able to make a simple nut butter sandwich look like something out of a food magazine! Not only does it sound delicious, but it your photography is unbelievable!

    1. TheAlmondEater says:

      Thank you Jessie! 🙂

  9. Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate says:

I LOVE making grilled almond butter sandwiches…yum! And I agree with the price of the stuff…Costco has it for way cheaper!

    1. TheAlmondEater says:

Ahh that’s good to know! Now if only there was a closer Costco…

  10. Tina Muir says:

Ahhh yum! I have made these before….messy as they are….SO worth it! I have been making my own almond butter recently (as I agree it is insanely expensive), and I LOVE how creamy it is, even from the fridge I can literally pour it out the jar! YUUUMMM! Almonds are sooooo good for you too, I need lots of recovery food right now for my sore, heavy legs…and you are the queen of almonds 🙂
