Honeydew doesn’t get the credit it deserves. It’s incredibly versatile, affordable and refreshing. In my opinion, it’s perfectly delicious on its own, but even more delicious in smoothie form.

Recipe features

  • A fresh way to enjoy honeydew
  • An easy smoothie recipe that’s ready in just 5 minutes!
  • Lightly sweetened with dates, and it’s is dairy-free and vegan-friendly

Ingredient notes:

Honeydew – Buy a whole one, cut it up and then use 1 cup of it for this smoothie, and save the rest for later or to eat on its own

Spinach – Can sub other kind of greens if you prefer. I like spinach because you really can’t taste it, but you could sub 1/2 cup of kale instead

Dates – Medjool or Deglet, just make sure they’re pitted.

Oats – Rolled or old fashioned, not quick, and if you’re gluten free make sure to use certified gluten free oats

Coconut – Preferably unsweetened, since this smoothie is already fairly sweet on its own

Milk – Any kind! I usually opt for almond or oat.

FAQs and Tips

I recommend purchasing a whole honeydew rather than pre-cut honeydew. Typically, pre-cut honeydew isn’t as fresh, mostly because it was cut days prior. Plus, cutting honeydew yourself takes less than 5 minutes, and it’ll make the smoothie taste better, trust me!

Substitutions: See the ingredients list above

Can I make this ahead of time?

You can! You can make any smoothie the night before, but just know that the texture will be a bit different, and you’ll definitely have to stir the smoothie well before drinking it.

And I feel like you’ve barely talked about the wedding on here so I’m glad you gave us a little update! Honeymoon planning was my favorite part. Are you guys looking to stay in the country or go overseas?

    1. Erin says:

I KNOW I’m the worse engaged person–now that we’re a year away I feel like I’m going to inevitably start talking about the wedding more. We are thinking outside the country for sure but nowhere crazyyyyyy expensive… any recommendations are welcome!

Love these photos! So green and vibrant. And I’ve always been a big honeydew fan! I do have to say that the pre-packaged ones are never as sweet and delicious as the fresh version, though, so I can’t blame ya for not liking it at first!

    1. Erin says:

Yes so true. I guess that’s true for everything–fresh is always better!

Honeydews were on sale at the store and now I’m wishing I’d bought one, this looks great!

Vacation planning is my favorite pastime. Not sure what your budget is, but Playa Del Carmen, Mexico is the BEST value in terms of great resorts and gorgeous beaches. I’ve been couple times and I love it there. Also love Aruba, the Virgin Islands, and the Caymans. Can’t wait to hear where you decide to go!!

    1. Erin says:

Thanks Kelly–those are all awesome recommendations (and we were already considering some of them too! :))

Clearly I need to be off making this fantastic concoction …er…smoothie bowl!

    1. Erin says:

You gotta get on the smoothie bowl/honeydew coconut train asap!
