This Chocolate Banana Mug Cake is a quick and healthy way to curb your chocolate craving. Bonus: it only takes minutes to make!
What's the best flavor combination in the world? Obviously something with chocolate, but what else? Chocolate+peanut butter, chocolate+coconut; those are two of my favorite for sure, but another favorite is probably chocolate+banana. I remember when I was younger I used to go to the annual fair back in Ohio and get a chocolate covered banana every year because they were too good to pass up. So, why not create a simple mug cake with that flavor combination?Â
Â
I've made a few different mug cake recipes and I always love them. Mug cakes are the perfect single serve dessert and perfect for when I'm craving sweets but don't want to overdo it. With that being said, I am NOT a baker. Baking scares me. I'm afraid to add too much flour/salt/baking soda/baking powder etc., so I was thrilled that this recipe turned out on the SECOND try. Woohoo!Â
BANANA MUG CAKE INGREDIENTS
- banana
- whole wheat flour
- cocoa
- sugar
- milk
- chocolate chipsÂ
This microwave banana mug cake will take you no longer than three minutes to make, and afterward the only thing you will have to wash is a mug and maybe a few measuring spoons. Nothing is better than a quick clean-up. NOTHING. Ok you're right--it's second best after a delicious homemade chocolate banana mug cake.
HOW TO MAKE A MUG CAKE
In order to make a mug cake, you're going to need a microwave-safe mug. It sounds like a no-brainer, but not all mugs are, so make sure yours is before you make this recipe. Once you have that, you're going to mash the ripe banana in the bottom of the mug, then mix all of the dry ingredients MINUS the chocolate chips together with the banana. Next, stir in the milk so that all the ingredients are combined. As a result, you should have something that resembles cake batter.Â
Now, you're going to microwave the cake for approximately 45 seconds or until the cake is set. This banana mug cake recipe is egg-free, so it's ok if it's slightly under-baked. Last, sprinkle some chocolate chips on top for that extra goodness.
This whole cake might take up a whole 9 minutes of your time: 3 minutes to prepare, 3 minutes to eat and a 3 minute clean up. Plus, it's healthy and delicious—what could be better?

Chocolate + Peanut Butter of course! This is a girl that eats nut butter straight, right out of the jar. I should toss chocolate in the jar next time I spoon in.

I need to try a mug cake- I have seen them all over! Definitely pinning this to make later. I will have to bring my wares to work though because I don't own a microwave (!!). Chocolate + orange is one of my favorite combos. I love the chocolove chocolate bars in dark chocolate orange flavor.

That looks awesome. I bought dark chocolate frozen bananas from the store and they are AWESOME. Also made a chocolate, peanut butter, oreo banana bread a few months ago. It was heavenly. Definitely going to give this mug a try!

All of the most delicious flavors combined into one bread?? Sounds amazing!
Jordan @ The Blonde Vegan says
Ahh, this looks SO GOOD. I am the same way as you with baking -- terrified to be too heavy-handed on the flour/sugar/salt/baking powder, so I usually just opt out of baking in general. But this mugcake looks like the perfect way to indulge without the fear of overeating! Yahoo!! Definitely going to have to give this one a try 🙂

I can only eat bananas when they are covered in something else such as almond butter or chocolate. I think this would pass the test! Looks delishhh

I am amazed by how awesome bananas are in baking! And I'm amazed by how the chocolate taste can pretty much cover up the banana taste! This looks delicious, and I need to buy a cute little ramekin like the one you have!
TheAlmondEater says
Target baby. Although I'm sure you could find a ramekin pretty much anywhere else too haha
