Peanut Butter Espresso Smoothie

This peanut butter espresso smoothie combines your two favorite things: peanut butter and coffee! It’s a delicious and nutritious breakfast or afternoon pick-me-up.

Do you struggle with finding time to make breakfast? I’ve definitely been there before. When I’m in a rush in the mornings, smoothies tend to be my go-to breakfast. Not surprisingly, a vegan espresso smoothie is even better because you’re killing two birds with one stone: coffee and breakfast all in one.
Needless to say, I’m excited to share this recipe with you. I love coffee and coffee desserts and coffee bars and yes, even my favorite coffee turmeric smoothie. My coconut mocha smoothie is one of my most popular recipes, so I thought I’d make another version, only this time using peanut butter. Because why not? Oh, and if you really love coffee smoothies, be sure to check my top 10 FAVORITE coffee smoothies.
Recipe features
- Delicious on-the-go breakfast with a little caffeine too
- Even more delicious when paired with my homemade peanut milk
- Perfect for if/when you’re craving something sweet in the morning, but won’t cause a sugar crash

Ingredient notes
Banana – If you don’t want to use banana as a base, you could sub 1/2 cup raw (preferably soaked) cashews instead
Espresso – If you own an espresso machine, feel free to use that, but if not, I recommend using espresso powder
Peanut butter – Can use any kind of nut butter, but adding a scoop of nut butter makes this smoothie more filling (i.e. some protein) so I don’t recommend skipping it
Milk – ANY kind (see my post on how to make peanut milk to take it to the next level!)
Tips
Want this smoothie to big thicker? Use a frozen banana, or add 5-8 ice cubes to the blender
Any other ingredients I could add to this smoothie?
Yes! I love adding chia seeds or hemp seeds to smoothies, or even a scoop of collagen powder.

Oh YUM! coffee and peanut butter are two of my favorite things!
Thanks Macy!
Former Starbucks worker….so I drink it everyday like 3 times a day….also this looks AMAZING!!!! (also I don’t know why I’m commenting like you don’t know me or that I worked at Starbucks….) 🙂
I had no idea you worked at Starbucks… thanks for letting me know. But actually, thanks for the comment!
Do you know any more coffee smoothie recipes?
Ummmm can we talk about how INCREDIBLE these photos are? My goodness…they’re breathtaking.
I am totally a coffee addict for both caffeine and taste. It’s just so dang good. I really got on the coffee train in college, but my dad used to give me chocolate covered espresso beans when I was little (lord knows why) so the true love of coffee started early.
Uhmm chocolate covered espresso beans are SO GOOD.. I forgot about them until right now and now I need some. Also, thank you! I’ve been trying (keyword=trying) to use my tripod more often.
This smoothie looks awesome! Was just thinking today about what a travesty it is that there aren’t many snacks/desserts that combine espresso and peanut butter 🙂
Ohhh what a coincidence! And now there’s at least one 😀
This looks so delicious! There is nothing better than coffee and peanut butter!
Thanks Shannon!
I LOVE this! So simple!!!! I may make this tonight – I was totally scrambling for breakfast this AM. Honestly, maybe for lunch – LOL. I have ALWAYS been a coffee drinker! I used to sneak my dad’s at about age 6 or 7! My family was so worried it would stunt my growth, but I’m almost 5’9″ sooooo I think I did OK!
Omg you were drinking coffee before I even knew what it smelled like! You were meant to be a coffee drinker.
I’m 74 and I’ve been drinking coffee since about 3 because I hated milk so my mom gave me coffee with a lot of milk to get me to drink the milk. I still hate milk. but love coffee with a splash of real cream.
I hate the taste of milk too. These days i replace them w/ almond or coconut milk or cream.
There isn’t much better than coffee and peanut butter! It’s like a milkshake for breakfast. Yes, I’ll take one!
It absolutely is!
I started drinking coffee in college and I’m a lot like you. I loooove coffee, but if I go without it it doesn’t have any impact on my day. It’s more a mental thing with me I think. Plus I love the smell 🙂
Ohh good I’m glad you understand what I was saying ha. I also love when my kitchen smells like coffee–the best!
I am loving the action shots with that gorgeous blue apron! You can really feel your passion for photography through your work, Erin. It’s just so beautiful.
I’m not a coffee drinker but you could turn me into one with this smoothie. Peanut butter and banana? Be still my heart. <3
Bahhh thank you!! And yes, PB and banana is always a good idea.
LOVE coffee and peanut butter! Never tried the two together, but boy does this smoothie look amazing! I started drinking coffee in high school and still drink at least 4 cups a day! I usually drink it black 😉
Oh my gosh you’re a champ! And also a true coffee addict 😉
