If you love sweet potatoes as much as I do, you’re going to adore these air fryer sweet potatoes. They’re crispy on the outside, but soft in the middle and a nice change of pace from mashed sweet potatoes or oven-roasted sweet potatoes.

Have I mentioned how much I’ve been loving my air fryer lately? As a proclaimed texture freak, I find that it gives food the BEST texture (like my air fryer chicken thighs).

I’m still not 100% sure about the serving size on this recipe. I eat potatoes by the handful, so I believe the serving size is 2, but if you’re serving this to kids or want to just eat them as a small side, then the serving size is closer to 4. Just keep that in mind!

Ingredient notes:

Sweet potato – Two cups diced sweet potato should equal one large or two medium sweet potatoes.

Chili powder – Delicious spice that I ALWAYS have in my spice cabinet; can sub garlic herb seasoning, chipotle seasoning, za’atar, or any other combination that you want.

Avocado oil spray – Can use olive oil spray too; don’t want to skip this though! You need to spray your air fryer to ensure the potatoes don’t stick.

Method

First: Dice the sweet potatoes. There’s no need to peel them first; simply cut off the ends, then dice the sweet potatoes. I like to slice the potatoes into rounds, then cut them into fourths.

Second: Season the potatoes. Place the potatoes into a bowl, then drizzle them with the oil and stir so that they’re coated. Then, add the seasoning and stir again.

Third: Air fry. Spray your air fryer with avocado oil/olive oil/nonstick spray, then add the sweet potatoes, making sure they’re not overlapping. Air fry them at 400° for 20-25 minutes, making sure to shake the basket half way through.

Tips and FAQ’s

Want to make air fryer sweet potato fries instead? Thinly slice the sweet potatoes into “fries”, then air fry them for the same amount of time, checking them every 4 minutes to make sure they don’t burn (they’ll probably cook a little more quickly).

-Serve these potatoes with a side of ketchup, mayo, chipotle aioli, almond pesto (don’t knock it ’til you try it), or your favorite condiment of choice.

How do I know when these are done?

The potatoes are done when they’re golden brown on the outside. You can always do a taste test to see if they’re cooked to your liking after 20 minutes, and if not, put them back in for 5 more minutes.

Can these be reheated?

Yep! However, as with many air fryer recipes, the texture won’t be exactly the same. To reheat, you can either microwave them, or place them on a baking sheet and heat in the oven at 400° for 10 minutes or so.

Great spice! I cooked the slices in the microwave (parboil) for 3 minutes to speed things along. Tossed with oil and spices and then air fried for 7 minutes each side. Perfect!
