Easy and delicious Sweet Potato Pizza topped with caramelized onions, sweet potatoes and goat cheese. It’s a fall-flavored pizza that’s has something for everyone!

You know I love a good pizza recipe, as I’ve shared several on this site before. As much as I enjoy my prosciutto and mozzarella skillet pizza, I tend to make pizza on a baking sheet in the oven. If you’re a fan of sweet potatoes, you must give this pizza recipe a try!
Recipe features
- A pizza recipe that has it all — sweet potatoes, goat cheese and prosciutto
- Covered in caramelized onions, which pair perfectly with the sweet potatoes and arugula
- A pizza recipe that’ll get you in the fall spirit!
Ingredient notes:
Pizza dough – Homemade or store-bought. I almost always buy the pizza dough from either Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.
Cheese – Parmesan, with an option to add goat cheese too
Sweet potato – Peeled and diced. The smaller you dice the sweet potatoes, the better they’ll cook in the oven.
Prosciutto – Can sub pancetta
Toppings – Optional toppings include either red pepper flakes, fresh thyme or a drizzle of balsamic vinegar
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Caramelize the onions. Heat a large skillet on low, then add the butter and onions and stir until onions are caramelized, approximately 10-15 minutes. If the onions start to brown, add 1-2 tbsp olive oil to the skillet.
Step 2: Add pizza toppings. Roll the pizza dough out and transfer it to a large baking sheet or pizza stone. Then, add the caramelized onions, parmesan cheese, prosciutto, and diced sweet potato, and drizzle everything with a little olive oil.
Step 3: Bake. Bake the pizza at 425° for 10 minutes, then remove it from the oven, add the goat cheese, and bake for 5 more minutes, or until the prosciutto is crispy and the pizza dough is browned on the edges.
Tips
- Want the crust to brown more quickly? Brush the edges with a little olive oil.
- Additional and optional toppings include: red pepper flakes, fresh thyme, a drizzle of balsamic, or burrata cheese.
Do I have to cook the diced sweet potato beforehand?
Technically no. My tip is to dice the sweet potato into small cubes so that they cook in the oven. With that said, you can cook the diced sweet potato in a skillet for 3-5 minutes before adding it onto the pizza if you prefer.

This is honestly everything I love in a circle. Need right now. Also I need to go look for that crust it looks so good!
It was good! I was quite pleased.
Looks great! I’ve never thought to put sweet potato on pizza but it looks sweet!! Plus, love the taste of homemade pizza 🙂
I love sweet potato pizza! I usually make the crust with sweet potatoes but that takes some time. I recently found a recipe for ‘easy pizza crust’ and it was actually easy (i.e. no yeast) so I might make one of those this weekend and use your topping ideas.
Dying to see how I feel about pecans on pizza 😀
Love the idea of using sweet potatoes in place of traditional pizza sauce! And with cheese? Dying. As for my current obsession… it’s a weird one given the time of the year. Lately I haven’t been able to get enough smoothies. I know 😯
soooo I can’t actually remember the last time I ate pizza. I should be ashamed of myself. And get some soon.
Girlllll get some pizza ASAP.
Yum this looks delicious. I love all types of pizza but definitely need to try this unique version!
