Ohhhh shoot!! Yeah, we bought a house. I know you probably already know this by now, but I wanted to write about it. Once we fix it up a bit I’ll be sure to share photos. So, let me tell you the house story, and then I’ll share a few other things I was up to this past month.
The house story goes something like this: Miguel wanted to buy a house and I wasn’t really ready, so every night Miguel would browse houses online and often send them to me via text message. A lot of times I’d say something like, “yeah that’s nice, but it needs x, y, and z done and it’s not in the area we want to be in”, but every once in awhile he’d hook me with a good house. Even when that happened though, I still wasn’t sure I wanted to leave apartment life, because there wasn’t anything wrong with our apartment (<—looking back, I’m not sure there needs to be anything wrong. We just simply didn’t have enough space. Period.).
ANYWAY. One night Miguel was browsing houses per the usual and he stumbled upon a gem of a house and once he showed it to me I was like oh shit. Because it was perfect. It checked ALL of the boxes and I believe I said out loud “I want that house”, words that I’d never spoken before. We quickly debated if we should go look at it, and I immediately knew that if we went to go see it, we were going to buy it, but I also knew that out of all the houses Miguel had ever showed me, this was my favorite one. Plus, as indecisive of a person as I am, some of my best decisions have been made spontaneously (like getting Layla!), so I decided to just go for it.
We saw it, we loved it, and lucky for me the owner of the barre studio where I teach is also a realtor, so she helped us through the home buying process, which made the whole thing a breeze. Hilariously enough, everyone—and I mean everyone—wanted to help us move. Miguel’s family and my family helped, which made the day go by really quickly. I think because it’s our first house everyone was super excited to be there for us, which was awesome.
It’s been a little less than two weeks and we’re feeling pretty settled. We’re fully unpacked and I’d say pretty adjusted. DEFINITELY adjusted to having more space. Even just having a basement to put boxes and not needing quarters for laundry is a huge upgrade for us (feeling so adult as I type that sentence). We ordered new living room furniture, and our next project is going to be working out our backyard once the weather gets a bit nicer. But yeah! We’re loving it so far and so is Layla because not only does she have a yard, but she now has two windows where she can people watch and bark at the mailman.
OTHER FEBRUARY THINGS:
Besides buying a house, here are a few other things I was up to this past month…
-I started developing content for Canvas, a start up beverage company, so go give them a follow on Instagram or at least check out their website 😀 Right now I’m helping them launch their brand by creating a ton of content—images—for their social and website, which I’m enjoying doing because their look and feel is a little different than my usual vibe, but it’s a good thing.
-I had two interior photo shoots this past month, which were great. I always enjoy shooting interiors because well, A) I like shooting interiors, B) they’re a nice break from food and C) I get to shoot on location inside beautiful homes, which is always super cool/makes me envious every single time/keeps my future home “wish list" growing longer and longer.
-Miguel and I watched Broadchurch on Netflix and LOVED it. If you’re looking for a show to binge, I highly recommend! Right now we’re also loving The Chi and The Assassination of Gianni Versace (though not as good as The People Vs. OJ Simpson, in my opinion).
-We also went to Cleveland to see BORNS in concert. Well, we actually saw the concert in Akron because it got moved last minute, but we stayed in Cleveland. Regardless, it was a really good show and we got to hang in Cleveland for the night, so that was a nice, quick getaway, and it was on a THURSDAY night. We’re wild.
Overall February was a pretty low-key month because we were trying to save money for the house! I feel very fortunate to have found a home that checks a lot of the boxes and that Miguel and I can grow into and make our own.

Congrats in your new home! 🙂 I've also been thinking of getting one, do you have any tips when it comes to finding the "perfect" home? I already know what I want but I also have a lot of doubts.

congratulations on your new home, erin + miguel (+layla!). bet layla loves having a yard. so excited to see how your home progresses. taking a leap of faith & buying when we did was the best thing we did for ourselves - very similar to you we had a great duplex and it's nice having a landlord to do things like...shovel. haha! nothing beats having your own space though - so excited for you guys!!!! xo

Thanks Jess!! It's definitely nice having our own space. Though I will miss having landlords do our yard work/outside work (though we didn't have our own yard so I guess there's that compromise, right?).
