Everything Bagel Green Beans

Take green beans up a few notches with this Everything Bagel Green Beans recipe. All the flavors of your favorite bagel but on beans instead.

If you love everything bagels, you'll DIE over these everything bagel-seasoned beans!

Everything bagels are the best kind of bagels. Period. Cinnamon bagels are good and you can’t go wrong with a good ‘ole plain bagel, but everything bagels have that kick that other flavors lack. Aaaand between you and me, I’ve been enjoying an everything bagel once a week for the past month or two. I know I know—WHY—well 1) they’re delicious and 2) my wallet couldn’t handle two acai bowls per week, so now I usually get 1 acai bowl and 1 everything bagel on my breaks from teaching barre class.

If you’re not a fan or haven’t tried an everything bagel, I’m assuming it’s because you don’t like onion. …which I want to say “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!”, but I get it. I do. Onion is a very strong flavor, so I can see why someone may be put off by it. I, however, am not. I didn’t used to, but I now eat raw onions on my salad and sandwiches, and I la-la-la-love caramelized onions, as you can see here, here and here.

If you love everything bagels, then you'll love these "everything" seasoned beans!

So if I love onions so much, then why aren’t onion bagels my favorite bagels? Because besides onion, the “everything” flavoring is made up of poppy seeds, garlic and sesame seeds. Traditionally, it also contains caraway seeds, but I didn’t have any on hand and couldn’t find any at the grocery store, so I omitted them in this recipe. If you do have them on hand, feel free to add them into the mix. Long story short, the “everything” flavoring is pure perfection and just what you need to jazz up your green beans.

Truthfully, I love green beans on their own with pepper and the occasional dollop of butter, but sometimes vegetables deserve to be the star of the show, if only to get the kiddos to actually eat them.

If you love everything bagels then you NEED these "everything" seasoned green beans in your life!

This recipe is SO easy it’s silly. You make the green beans as you normally would, drizzle them with oil and then sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning overtop. Do NOT forget the oil; otherwise, the seasoning won’t stick. Buuuuut that’s basically it! So the next time you have beans that need to be eaten, give this recipe a try. It’s a winner winner with your chicken dinner! <—worst

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. fresh green beans*
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 2 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon onion flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic flakes
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Cut ends off of beans and cook over stovetop as you normally would.
  • While beans are cooking, combine poppy seeds, sesame seeds, onion, and garlic together in a bowl; set aside.
  • As soon as the beans are cooked, drain the water and then stir in butter and olive oil; stir well so that all beans are covered and then pour everything bagel seasoning overtop, once again stirring well so that all beans are covered.
  • Sprinkle salt to taste and enjoy!

Notes

*To be honest, I don't know how many beans I used in this recipe. I'm guessing around 1 lb, but it may have been a bit more of less. As always, adjust the seasoning measurements to your needs.

I LOVE everything bagels! I definitely want to try this, I would have never thought to put seasonings/toppings like these on green beans. I'm glad you didn't include fennel too - I've been seeing fennel seeds on everything bagels lately and I'm like NO STOP IT RIGHT THERE.

This is such a good idea! I'm not a YOOGE fan of everything bagels because of the stinky breath that follows (which is just too much for me to handle in the AM). BUT I do like the flavors and I see how they would be incredible on green beans. Sign me up!

Hahah I actually totally get that. I ate one before teaching the other day and it was the worst idea ever. HEY BAD BREATH.

What a great idea! I love everything bagels, but I never thought about how appropriate the toppings would be on something else.

Alright, feel free to judge, but I've NEVER been a bagel girl! I know, I'm weird! Maybe having it as a breakfast sandwich is okay but never just by itself. It could've been the lump of bread sitting in my stomach that never truly satisfied me haha! I DO love the "everything" flavor combo though. And I DO love green beans. So I automatically LOVE this recipe!!! 🙂

I love green beans. I usually have them in a bean salad but I love how you used everything bagel seasoning for them. Love how simple the recipe is.
