French Fry Bar | Build the ultimate french fry bar with your choice of condiments and homemade, baked fries!

Whenever someone asks, “Would you like fries with that?”, there is only one appropriate answer: YES. How does one even go about order a sandwich without fries? How?!! In fact, sometimes I just order fries. I know they’re considered a side, but they deserve to be the star of the show from time to time.

Like today.

French Fry Bar | Homemade, baked french fries with your choice of condiments--a super fun party appetizer!

French Fry Bar | Build the ultimate french fry bar with HOMEMADE FRIES and tons of condiments!

Though it may be more common to create a cheese plate or fruit platter when  you have guests over, I guarantee they’d be much more thrilled to hang out with you if they knew there were going to be fries. Not that you’re not fun to hang out with, but c’mon. It’s a french fry bar for goodness sake! Fries on fries on fries with so many different condiments. You could even take it up a notch and add sweet potato fries into the mix. Whoa whoa whoaaaaaa.

I may be a bit biased, but a french fry bar is WAY better than a fruit platter, and I love fruit! Seriously, I do. But you cannot say no to fries.

I decided to use the following condiments in this spread: ketchup, mustard, truffle oil with parmesan cheese, garlic herb olive oil, chipotle mayo, and nacho cheese. Obviously you can include whatever you’d like—that’s the beauty of it! While I don’t like to play favorites (jk yes I do), my favorite french fry condiments are probably truffle oil and chipotle mayo. In case you aren’t aware, chipotle mayo is simply mayonnaise with a bit of sriracha. Yes, you can technically go to the store and buy actual chipotle mayo, but there’s really no need.

French Fry Bar | SUCH a fun party appetizer--make homemade fries and choose your own condiments!

Oh, and if you’ve never made your own fries, what are you waiting for?! Truthfully, I should make them more often than I do. I like chopped, roasted potatoes anyway, so why not spend a few extra minutes chopping them up even smaller into french fry-sized potatoes? Because for some reason, fries > potatoes.

So cheers to summertime and friends and all the condiments. Oh yeah, and to fries! DUH.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 russet potatoes, washed and scrubbed
  • 3-4 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt
  • Condiments of choice, ketchup, mustard, truffle oil, etc.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450°.
  • Chop potatoes into thin slices; typically, the thinner they are, the crispier they'll become.
  • Line two baking sheets with foil and then spray the foil with nonstick spray.
  • Place potatoes in a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil and salt; stir.
  • Transfer potatoes to baking sheets; make sure they are evenly spread out and not overlapping one another. This way, they are able to become crispy and not soggy.
  • Bake fries for 25-30 minutes, flipping them after 15 minutes so they cook evenly.
  • Remove from oven, sprinkle with more salt and serve with several condiments of your choice.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

*Serving size is an estimation as I didn't count the fries one by one. My best guess is around 100 though.

What a super fun idea!! I need to have some friends over and do this french fry bar!

  3. heather @Lunging Through Life says:

Ranch always. Great tip of the Chipotle Mayo, though. I can’t find it in my grocery store (aldi…) but have both those ingredients 😉 And I agree.. I’d be happier with a fry bar than fruit or cheese, haha! Sometimes my dinner decision when out is based on what comes with fries. Oops!

    1. Erin says:

Ohhhh ranch! I’m weird for not liking ranch, so we never have it on hand so I didn’t even think of that, but DUH ranch! That’s a good pick.

  4. Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday says:

I’ve been known to dip fries in BBQ sauce, but I also really love fries heavily seasoned with S&P and dipped in classic ketchup 🙂 This is genius. And I’ve totally ordered just fries before, too. So necessary sometimes!

    1. Erin says:

BBQ sauce! I love that idea–I don’t think I’ve ever done that?

Favorite french fry condiment? Salt. 😉

It’s a good thing I don’t have high blood pressure.

    1. Erin says:

      HAHA yes. Fries NEED salt.

  7. Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food says:

I love homemade french fries! Riley makes really good ones. We’ve been trying for ages to recreate the fries at one of our favorite restaurants and he’s come pretty darn close. And truffle oil with fries = perfection! Toss truffle fries with a little parmesan and it’s even better.

    1. Erin says:

Truffle oil is my FAV on fries and popcorn. MMMM.

  8. Amanda @ .running with spoons. says:

Ketchup will always and forever be my #1 condiment. I eat so much of it that I often joke I’ll take my ketchup with a side of food 😛 The only thing that could compete is the sweet ‘n’ sour sauce from McD’s. I’m pretty sure I’d eat there JUST for the sauce.

    1. Erin says:

Ohhh shoot I forgot about that! That’s a great fry condiment too.

  9. Marina @ A Dancer's Live-It says:

This is such a great idea!! I’m obsessed with honey mustard, but I’m partial to Annie’s brand because it’s so good! But ketchup is my first love.
