YES it’s about damn time. I talked wedding a bit on Friday, but now I’m going a bit more in depth. Since I’m really bad about talking about wedding planning (my last full update was back in July!!), I figured why not interrupt my normal post schedule to bring you a slew of wedding updates? Hopefully you’re down with that, and if not, I’ll be back with another recipe tomorrow!
I’ve been following one of those Pinterest “wedding timelines” and it’s actually pretty helpful. In my opinion, it makes things a little less overwhelming. So far we’re right on track, so let’s get to the updates in no particular order.
Invitations designed and done
Yes, finally. I ended up designing our invitations in InDesign because why not? They’re simple and cute without being crazy over-the-top which, no offense, is too much for me to handle. We decided to not send out Save the Dates because the majority of the people we’re inviting already know when our wedding date is. Obviously if we were having a huge wedding, Save the Dates would be crucial, but since we’re not, they’re not! That said, I’d like to get the invites sent out by the end of March at the latest so people can be 100 percent sure of what’s going on, when they should take off work, etc.
Changed our wedding reception venue… again
Third time’s a charm, right? I think we’re trying to win a ‘who can change their wedding venue the most within a year’ contest. If you’ve been reading since we got engaged, you know that we originally wanted our reception to be at a barn, but we never actually booked it because we decided that we wanted something closer to the city (the barn was about 40 minutes away), which is when we booked Point Breezeway. We were planning on keeping that venue (obviously…) until we were talking one day about how the venue was mostly outdoors and we were nervous about it raining, and about how we kind of wanted to invite more than 75 people, which is the capacity at Point Breezeway. So we explored our options and landed on Spirit in Lawrenceville. If you’re in the Pittsburgh area and you’ve been to Spirit, then you already know how awesome it is. If not, it’s essentially a club on the first floor and an event space on the second floor. This new venue will allow us to still have the food truck as our caterer, we’re able to invite more people because it’s a larger space and all and all, it just feels right. Since it’s 4.5 months away, we can’t (and don’t want to!) change it again.
Blush and navy are the final colors
I feel like the last time we spoke wedding I was still deciding on colors, but I ultimately decided on light pink/blush and navy blue. Blush bridesmaids dresses are in these days, and while I’m not trying to be trendy, I really do like how they look. I’m having my bridesmaids get their own dresses, all short (because July=hot), with varying shades of pink. As for Miguel, he’ll be wearing a navy suit with a pink OR gray tie, since he insists his tie color is the one decision he wants to be in charge of.
Looked at flowers
If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (thealmondeater), then you already know I went wedding flower shopping this past Saturday. One of my bridesmaids’ mom is a florist, so she took me to her warehouse where I was able to see all kinds of flowers. Naturally I had no clue what I wanted, but I knew what I DIDN’T want, which counts for something. We decided on some peonies, roses, baby’s breath, and a few other flowers that I can’t remember the name of. Colors are pink/peach/white/cream, and a little more “wild” looking rather than completely put together. …if that makes sense
Booked a DJ
I don’t have much to say about this other than I’m glad we crossed it off our to-do list. Now that we’re in a bigger venue, we actually have a ton of room to dance soooo I’m kind of pumped about that.
Honeymoon in Italy
You knew this was coming (or at least I hope you did based on the above photo). We did it—we finally booked our Italy trip and I couldn’t be more excited! We went back and forth and did a ton of research on a bunch of different places, but ultimately came back to our first choice: Italy. We will be exploring Rome and the Amalfi Coast for the most part, and once we get closer to our wedding date I’ll be asking for your suggestions (or feel free to give them now!).
Bachelorette party coming up soon-ish
Remember when I said I’m going to Nashville for my bachelorette party? I have a feeling the end of May is going to be here sooner than we all think. Needless to say, I’m still psyched to take a mini trip with all my best gal pals because it’s bound to be a good time. Before getting engaged I remember wondering if I’d even take a bachelorette trip, but I’m so glad I am. I feel like bachelor and bachelorette parties are the perfect excuse to take a trip with your friends, and I feel like friend vacations don’t happen nearly enough (or not for me anyway!).
-Wedding cake—I’m obviously excited for this because wedding cake shopping=lots of wedding cake tasting=happy belly
-Finalize salon to get hair and make up done—I just sent my MOH more salon options, so hopefully we can solidify something soon
-Dress alterations—Still haven’t done this….. surprised? I’m not. All that needs done is to confirm WHERE I’m going to get it altered, so I think I can handle that
-Start thinking about the kind of wedding rings we want—This is a bit farther down the line, but it’s still something that needs done and something I should start browsing Pinterest for
Phew, longest post ever. I’m sure I’ll be back in a month or two for more updates, and I’ll absolutely be back tomorrow with a recipe. Happy Tuesday, friends!
