OH MY GOODNESS what a weekend! I know it’s Tuesday, but yesterday still felt like the weekend for me. In case you missed the photo I posted on Intsagram yesterday or my blog post from Friday, this past weekend I went wedding dress shopping! Cue panic/excitement/anxiousness/eagerness/eeeeeeeeeee! Spoiler alert: I found my perfect dress, so the “eeeeeeeeee” is closest to my current mood.
But don’t you want to hear HOW I found my perfect dress?! You totally do, I just know it.
It all started on a sunny Sunday afternoon—no wait, it didn’t. It started Friday night when my BFF/MOH Candice came into Pittsburgh from Columbus. She arrived in the evening and we chatted the night away and we had a sleepover just like old times (no seriously I felt like I was 14 again). It was wonderful. Saturday Candice and I met up with her sister who also lives in Pittsburgh and the three of us hung out before I called it a night in with my #1 girl aka Layla. BFFs.
Then Sunday arrived and I started feeling doubtful. Well, excited/doubtful. I had a certain dress in mind (if you recall from this post) and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to find a dress within my budget. YEP that’s me being negative Nancy. Anywho, I had three appointments scheduled that day. When I arrived at the first store, I ended up finding a dress that I liked—it was extremely unique and sort of what I had in mind but not totally. But it was WAY below budget and really pretty and my mom and Candice both liked it. But of course being the indecisive person that I am I wanted to make sure I explored all possible options, so we headed to the second dress place. Unfortunately, most of the dresses at the second place were a bit too “full”—either ball gowns OR simply heavier dresses, and since we are having a summer wedding that’s the last thing I want. Plus, ball gowns just aren’t really my style.
Thennnnnn—you guessed it—we headed to the third place.
The third dress store was perfect in every way. I loved all of the dresses I tried on and wanted to buy four wedding dresses because necessary. And by necessary I mean seriously not necessary. I fell in love with a particular dress until the consultant told me the price and I died a little inside, and not the good kind of die. It was MORE than twice my budget and I just couldn’t. Though my mother kindly offered to buy my wedding dress (thank you mom!), it wouldn’t have been worth it at all. I think every bride deserves to feel like a princess on her wedding day, but in the end, you only really end up wearing the dress for—what—12 hours max. Going THAT far over budget is just a little crazy. But in the moment, I was really sad, disappointed and a bit discouraged too.
I came home, threw a fit to Miguel, and then looked up two new places for my mom and I go visit the next day (yesterday). Coincidentally, she stayed the night in Pittsburgh, which worked out to my advantage. Anyway, yesterday afternoon my mom and I headed out again and, lo and behold, I found my perfect dress. It was everything I was looking for at a more than affordable price. I tried it on first, but after trying on the other dresses the consultant had pulled for me I knew nothing would compare to the first one. So yeah… I SAID YES TO THE DRESS WOOOOOOO. Hopefully this story wasn’t too boring and terrible—it was a long and fun two days but I’m happy to have walked away with a dress that looks exactly like the one I had pictured in my brain.
Oh and if/when you get a chance you should probably make this smoothie. It doesn’t exactly scream SEPTEMBER, but it does scream really freaking good, so that has to count for something.Print
