Today I want to talk about the weirdest/craziest show I’ve ever seen: ‘Naked and Afraid’. Have you guys seen it? If not, you’re totally missing out. ….ok I’m half kidding but half totally serious. Then again, it doesn’t take much to get me hooked on a reality series. Show me two episodes of any show with some drama in it and I’m glued to the TV for the next four hours.
So…Naked and Afraid. If you haven’t seen it, let me give you a brief synopsis: two people are placed in a random location, typically a rainforest or in Sunday night’s finale, in a desert in Brazil, for 21 days and have to survive. Oh, and they’re naked, though that part isn’t really important. So for 21 days they have to find their own food (plants, bugs, animals of any kind) and water (preferably the non contaminated kind), and create shelter so they are able to sleep. It sounds simple… ish…. but the drama can be if/when the two people are are placed together don’t get along. Or, ya know, when someone’s starving to death (literally) and has to be taken off the show on a bed stretcher so they can be hospitalized (I know, wtf).
The craziest part of it all? They don’t win anything for completing the 21 day challenge. Nada. Zip, zero, zilch, which is just plain insane in my opinion. In the end, every single contestant on the show ends up losing a ton of weight due to lack of food/water/nutrition and Miguel and I joked about what an effective diet that would be. ..horrible sense of humor, I know. Forgive me?
Is it weird for me to be talking about Naked and Afraid while showing you a salad? I bet the contestants on the show WISH they could have this salad. Of somehow stumble upon it in the rainforest just sitting on a plate on the ground waiting for them. It’s really delicious and includes the two neglected fruits: pears and grapefruits. Does anyone else feel like they are neglected or is that just me?
I didn’t use actual dressing on this salad and instead squeezed grapefruit juice all over it, which I thought was enough. However, feel free to use your favorite dressing in addition to or in place of the grapefruit juice.Print
