Oh hi Friday, where the heck did you come from? While I don’t believe in real detoxes—your body does a pretty good job detoxing on its own—I do believe in rebooting your system after eating a few too many cookies. Know what I’m sayin’? December was full of sweets with a sprinkle of greens and January is and should be full of spinach, berries, chia seeds, and bananas with a sprinkle of sweets.
Smoothie bowls are hands down one of the best ways to start the day, in my opinion. If you have time to sit down and eat a real breakfast—aka you’re not running late and sprinting out the door—you should prepare one of these bowls. The Detox Smoothie Bowl is made up of cucumber, apple, lemon, ginger, and spinach, and topped with chia seeds, apple and cucumber, though you could also top it with hemp seeds and orange slices and it’d be equally as delicious.
TIP: in order to make this a smoothie BOWL and not just a smoothie, use very little liquid when blending everything together. Why? Because the produce I opted to use—cucumber, apple and lemon—are already so water-based that if you use too much liquid to blend them together, the smoothie bowl won’t be thick. The goal is to make a thick bowl so you can eat it with a spoon. My recommendation is to use 1 tbsp of water to blend everything together, and then if that isn’t enough add additional water 1 tbsp at a time. If you accidentally add too much water—have no fear! Either A) drink it like a regular smoothie—it will still be delicious, or B) pour mixture into shot glasses and force your significant other to take health shots with you.
Yeah, that happened.
Despite the chilly weather, I hope you are still enjoying smoothies. Or better yet, this detox smoothie bowl and ALL of the bowls by my very talented blogger friends. Happy Friday!Print
Detox Smoothie Bowl+The Ultimate Smoothie Bowl Roundup
- Prep Time: 5 mins
- Total Time: 5 mins
- Yield: 1 1x
- 2 cups cucumber
- 2 cups spinach
- 1 apple, core removed
- 1 inch ginger
- Juice from 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp water*
- Toppings: up to you! I used cucumber, apple and chia seeds, but hemp seeds and orange slices would be delicious too
- Combine ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
- Place toppings overtop and enjoy!
*Start by using 1 tbsp water to mix everything together and go from there. If you need more water, add more 1 tbsp at a time. If you add too much water, you will be left with a smoothie instead of a smoothie bowl.
