This Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Chickpea Dip is a simple 7-ingredient appetizer that’s healthy in a sneaky way. Chickpeas help to make this dip full of protein while still tasting sweet thanks to the cinnamon and chocolate chips!
I made this recipe for-e-ver ago but for some reason I’m just now getting around to sharing it. And by “for-e-ver” ago I mean that I made it for the Super Bowl so yeah…I guess that was awhile ago. I know I sound like every other human being, but time is seriously flying by!
This recipe was actually inspired by two things at the same time. First off, one of my best friends and college roommates Richelle made the classic chickpea cookie dough dip one year for her Christmas party (I’m talking like three years ago), and I’d been meaning to try it out. Secondly, my Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Overnight Oats is one of my most popular recipes, so I wanted to create something cinnamon-y and chocolate chip-y at the same time. Plus, sometimes you just need a good ole dip that isn’t salsa or guac.
Eh, who am I kidding? Salsa and guacamole are what I live for, but occasionally I like to switch it up.
Since I’m always finding some excuse to talk about my weekends—which, side note, is kind of hilarious because even though my weekends sound exciting, they’re usually pretty low key—I figure why not talk about my weekend ahead of time? Probably not as detailed as an actual weekend recap, but my high school bestie/maid of honor is coming to visit this weekend and she’s bringing her boyfriend who I haven’t met yet and we’re going to hang out and it’s going to be wonderful. Or, I imagine it’s going to be anyway. I’m not sure what we’re doing as it IS St. Patty’s Day weekend in Pittsburgh aka complete and total madness in every bar and restaurant. Will we participate in this madness? Probably not, as I am seriously lame and haven’t done so since college (<—just had a flashback and now I miss college), but we’ll see!
So what is this dip anyway? I’m guessing you probably want to know.. It’s essentially chickpeas+oats+almond butter with a lot of cinnamon and a handful of chocolate chips. It’s creamy, filling (thanks chickpeas!) and goes perfectly with graham crackers and/or fruit like strawberries or grapes and probably even blueberries. Like, instead of eating this dip as a dip you could just spoon out a bunch of this in a bowl and top it with blueberries like you would yogurt except it would be better than yogurt because pretty much anything is better than yogurt. Yeah, I went there.
Ok point of story: make the dip, and if you’re celebrating St. Patty’s this weekend have SO MUCH FUN.Print
