As you can probably tell, TAE got a makeover! I’m so, so excited to share a few updates with you.
But first, why?
Well, because for the past few months I had been feeling a bit all over the place with the blog. I was talking about food, fitness, fashion, travel, beauty, blogging, and everything in between. And while I think that’s fine for some people, it felt SO unorganized and scatter-brained to me and I never really knew what I wanted to blog about. I was also all over the place because I really do like all of those things and I’m very passionate specifically about food and fitness. However, when it would come time to put together a fitness post, my heart never fluttered (<<<why) the way it would before prepping a food post. It would be more of an ‘ugh…. I don’t feel like explaining burpees’ feeling, and I think that’s largely in part because I teach 7 barre classes every week. The last thing I want to blog about after a morning full of teaching fitness is more fitness.
I also started thinking about the future of the blog. What do I want? Where do I want to be in 5 years? I didn’t EVER think TAE would be a food blog, but there’s honestly nothing I’d rather do on any given “work” day than prepare a meal, photograph it, edit the photos and so on. It doesn’t feel like work and it’s a process I genuinely enjoy. Focusing solely on food not only gives me a purpose, but it allows my readers (that’s YOU) to know what to expect when you visit my page.
Does that mean that I’ll never ever blog about anything other than food ever again? No, of course not. Food will be the primary focus, but if I want to blog about something else then I will. ….because it’s my blog and I make the rules.
The homepage. I wanted something slightly unique and eye-catching. I chose three images (deciding which was may or may not have been the most challenging decision..) to feature and then switched up the logo a bit, but opted to still keep the almonds. I chose the middle photo because coffee and kale are two things I eat almost every day, so it’s a pretty accurate representation of my loves. The rest of the blog is pretty much the same. I also wanted to keep the colors simple: teal+black+gray. Teal is my favorite color, and I’m a huge fan of neutrals, so deciding that part was pretty simple.
What to expect
Along with focusing more on food, I’m putting a strong focus on simple recipes that don’t require a ton of time. With that said, all recipes are going to require just 30 minutes or less from the moment you begin until the time you’re devouring the food. That means I’ll be paying close attention to time when creating recipes and be searching for the fastest way to get a recipe made. Obviously there will be a few meals that take longer, especially meals made in a slow cooker, but mostly everything else will require just 30 minutes! Why 30 minutes, you ask? Because 30 minutes for a delicious meal/snack/treat is doable even for the busiest of people and because if I weren’t a blogger myself, I would want to read a blog that focuses on quick recipes. Besides focusing on quick, I’m focusing on de-freaking-liciously healthy recipes that nourish your body and please your tastebuds.
Ultimately though, it’s going to be the same ‘ole site, just with more of a food focus.
Oh and this is What I think I look like vs. What I actually look like…
This is where you come in. If you comment below and answer the following questions, you will be in the running to win $50 to a store of your choice (within reason, obviously). I’ll choose the winner this Friday!
1. What kind of recipes do you want to see more of on TAE? This can be as specific or broad as you want.
2. What is it about a recipe that makes you actually want to make it vs. just pretending that you’re going to make it? For me, it’s time (i.e. quick), but for you it may also be specific ingredients/dish types, and I want to know!
THANKS GUYS, and a huge shoutout to Julie from Deluxe Designs for being so patient with me and making my site look a little more SNAZZY.
PS-exactly one year ago today was mine and Miguel’s engagement, so this day, regardless of the site redesign, will always hold a special place in my heart.
