One year ago today, my life changed for the better. One year ago today Miguel and I brought Layla home. We definitely didn’t know what we were in for—she was and still is full of surprises.
Layla, thank you for teaching me the true meaning of patience and of unconditional love. You are constantly making me smile, which is probably why I feel the need to give you 32 kisses every single day. You’re always full of energy and, if I’m being frank, you’re kind of bossy and a little rude sometimes, but I love you, even though I know if you had to choose between me and a squirrel, you’d choose the squirrel. I somehow still really, really love you.
I loved you when I brought you home and you were only 8 lbs, and I still love you now that you’re a whopping 40 lbs. I loved you when you chewed the legs of my kitchen chairs; I loved you when you pooped in my car (ok actually not so much that one); I loved you when you forced me to get out of bed at 2 am to take you outside; I loved you when you whined for the ENTIRE TIME (approx. 5 hours) we were moving out of our old and into our new apartment; I loved you when you chewed my couch (NOPE, definitely not that one either); and I loved you when you jumped on that stranger yesterday on our walk and he got mad. You can’t help it that you’re overly friendly.
But seriously—I love that I can count on you to always greet me with hugs and kisses. I love that you’re almost always up for snuggling, even if that just means at my feet. I love that every time I open the dishwasher you come prancing over, ready to lick any dishes that I didn’t rinse off well enough.
In short, I’m obsessed with you even though you drive me crazy every single day. You are 100% the best purchase Miguel and I have ever made.
