Happy Monday! I know Monday’s aren’t nearly as exciting as Friday’s but…how was everyone’s Easter? Mine was good—Miguel and I went over to my grandma’s and chowed down on some ham and potatoes and jello pretzel salad. Not too bad if you ask me!
Normally I go way overboard with my chocolate consumption on Easter, but not this year (thankfully). Actually, that’s a lie. The few days leading up to Easter I was majorly craving those Reese peanut butter eggs. I’m big on listening to cravings, so I may have eaten an egg or three 😀 On that note, I think we could all use a little detox protein smoothie post Easter, no?
I don’t recall if I’ve mentioned it on the blog before, but kiwi’s are a food that I was afraid of until this smoothie. Let me explain..
In first grade my class took a field trip to a newly built grocery store in my town. While there, we learned about the store and got to sample some of the food. One of the foods we sampled was kiwi. Most of the kids ate it and enjoyed it—yum—while I on the other hand, ended up spitting mine out because I hated it so much.
That was 17 years ago.
I apparently developed a fear of kiwis and didn’t realize it because HOLY SHIT that’s a long time to go without eating a kiwi.
So there I was at the grocery store last week when I spotted KIWIS. I couldn’t even remember what they tasted like, so I buckled up and bought a few.
I’d say it was kinda sorta long overdue.
The good news is that I now know that I like kiwis. My tastebuds are no longer that of a seven year old’s, thank goodness. I especially like kiwis when they’re combined with blueberries in a natural protein smoothie. ….”natural” meaning there is no protein powder in this smoothie, just hemp seeds! Fun fact: there’s 10 grams of protein in 3 tbsp of hemp seeds. For that reason, this smoothie makes for an awesome breakfast or post workout smoothie. NOM.Print
Blueberry Kiwi Protein Smoothie
- Prep Time: 5 mins
- Total Time: 5 mins
- Yield: 1 smoothie
- 1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 2 kiwis
- 2 mint leaves
- 3 tbsp hemp seeds
- 4 ice cubes
- 1/4 cup vanilla almond milk (or unsweetened)-I used So Delicious
- Cut kiwis in half.
- Throw all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
