It’s Labor Dayyyyyyy so I made you little baby crostinis! Do people eat crostini for Labor Day? I know I never have, but let’s all start something new. Alongside our burgers and fries we shall start serving crostini topped with cheese and pear and walnuts.
OH and btw—do you know the difference between bruschetta and crostini? Yeah I didn’t either, so I took it to the inter web to help me. Turns out, bruschetta is larger pieces of bread with toppings whereas crostini is baby pieces of bread with toppings. That is, if we’re being technical. I’ve seen PLENTY of restaurants call crostini bruschetta and I think that’s because bruschetta is more widely known. Anywho—fun fact of the day!
So.. it’s Monday.. Labor Day… Hopefully you have off from work. I do/don’t, but I’m ok with that. If all goes as planned, my day will include grabbing coffee with my friend Richelle who is in town, creating two recipes, and then seeing Angela and Cassie tonight 😀 Eeeeee! Not too shabby for a holiday.
What else should we talk about? Ohhhh yes—our engagement photos! We took our photos yesterday morning because I was too impatient/it was going to be too hot if we waited around til sunset. Guys, I was already sweating at like 8:30 am. Super cute. Anyway, we took our photos and I’m so anxious/eager/excited to see how they turned out! Miguel and I are so awkward…

It’s not like we typically look longingly into each others eyes and giggle on the reg. IF ONLY, then I guess we would be the perfect couple, but alas, we do not. Nevertheless, I’m excited to see them and show you and have photos of us as an actual couple (like so many of you mentioned in Friday’s post) for many years to come.
SUBJECT CHANGE per the usual we need to talk about this crostini.
Well, it’s bread topped with good stuff. I’m not even sure I need to say anything else because BREAD, but I will. It’s small pieces of bread topped with melted parmesan cheese, pear slices, walnuts and then sprinkled with fennel, which is optional, but definitely adds a kick to the recipe. Talk about a recipe to impress. Not only is it really simple (yay), but it combines ingredients that you may not otherwise think to pair together. Essentially you cut the bread, place cheese atop of bread and into the oven. While the cheese is melting, cut up pear and crush walnuts, remove the bread from the oven, sprinkle on the toppings and BOOM DONE. Easy peasy snack or appetizer.
So go ahead and bring it to your holiday party, or don’t. If it were me, I would make it and then eat it all myself. And by “I would”, I mean that I already did that. Enjoy!
- 9 slices of french baguette
- 9 slices of fresh parmesan cheese
- 2 pears, sliced
- 3 tbsp walnut pieces
- 1 tbsp fresh fennel (optional)
- Approx. 2 tbsp honey drizzle
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Top crostini with parmesan cheese slices*; place on a baking sheet and in the oven for approximately 10 minutes.
- While crostini is in the oven, slice pears and crush walnuts into smaller pieces.
- Once cheese has melted, remove crostini from the oven and quickly top with pears, walnuts and fennel.
- Drizzle with honey and enjoy!
