Hi guys! How was your weekend? I know it’s Tuesday and I’m a day late, but I took a vacation day yesterday so today feeeeels like Monday. It’s awesome. Anyway, I mentioned Friday that Miguel and I were celebrating our 3 year anniversary by going on a mini-trip. We wanted to go somewhere A) close by and B) affordable, so we settled on Farmington, PA.
Farmington, PA is approximately 90 minutes south of Pittsburgh. The main reason I wanted to go was because I wanted to see Fallingwater (which I’ll talk about later) but there are other things to do as well.
We left Sunday late-morning and went straight to the Laurel Caverns. The caverns go underground and you can even go cave repelling, but we settled on the hour-long tour. The tour was pretty neat—I had never been inside a cave before—and it was fast paced (long, drawn-out tours drive me bonkers).

During the cave tour, the weather outside was pretty gloomy but, lucky for us, the weather cleared up and once the tour was over it was nice and sunny outside. We wanted to take advantage of the weather so we went and visited Ohiopyle. Ohiopyle is a state park with hiking trails and white water rafting—plenty to do and see.
It was beautiful! I’m definitely a city gal but getting away and spending time in the outdoors is SO nice! Between the cave tour and the hiking we had both worked up an appetite. Farmington is a pretty small town (or at least there isn’t a whole lot IN the town) so we decided on a local restaurant with a few menu options. I got the turkey burger and fries, and the waitress convinced us to get dessert.
Both were delicious!
After dinner we wanted to go see a movie at the local movie theater but, by the time we were done, most of the “good movies” were done showing for the night. So, we went back to our room and watched The Blind Side (it was on TV). LOVE that movie—does anyone else like that movie?
The next morning we woke up and headed out to our early-morning tour of Fallingwater. In case you haven’t heard of it, Fallingwater is a house built by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann’s (the owners of the old department store). The goal of the house was to combine unique architecture with nature, and it does just that. It was breathtaking!
I snuck a couple photos because I’m a badass—I couldn’t resist! There was a waterfall and you can hear it from every room in the house. After our tour we ate some lunch at the Fallingwater cafe..
Chicken salad wrap with a fruit salad—MMMM.
..and then headed home! It was a really great weekend and we both agreed that we’ll be back (most likely to spend more time at Ohiopyle!)
Q: How was your weekend? Have you ever heard of or been to Fallingwater?
